Started as a mobile unit in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to bring healthcare to people all around the Greater New Orleans Area, we are now stationed inside St. Anna's Episcopal Church and primarily serve the Treme/7th Ward/Lafitte neighborhoods. This population has an average life expectancy 20 years lower than communities just 2 miles away! A large portion of the community struggle with cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, violence and lack of efficient health coverage. Our operation provides the following free medical services on a walk-in basis twice a week:
Blood pressure and Diabetes screenings
Health education
Free Flu Shots
Doctor visits for acute issues (with non-narcotic prescriptions given when appropriate)
Referrals to local safety-net clinics
Medicaid application assistance
Diabetes Support Group meets monthly
